Many people enjoy using social media to talk to friends, meet new people, date, and find sexual partners. Using social networks and apps to connect with others has benefits as well as risks.
If you or a partner has had unprotected sexual activity* with someone you met online (e.g., Craigslist, Tinder, GROWLr, Grindr, Scruff, Jack’d, Manhunt, Hornet, etc.), you may have been exposed and should get tested as soon as possible. * Sexual risks for syphilis infection include kissing and/or oral sex, vaginal sex, or anal sex. Contact tracing has been incomplete due to patterns of anonymous, on-line or app-facilitated sexual encounters.
If posting ads on the internet (e.g.Craigslist) or using “hook-up” apps (e.g., Grindr, Tindr, Growlr, etc.), consider adding something about “only interested in safe play,” or something of that nature.
